Breathe In
~Pamela Henry
Breathe in
Observe this glimpse of
Eternity
Inner peace
Expanding in all
Directions of time
As all else falls away
Into an abyss of
Forgotten hardship
Washed away on
Waves of tranquility
And breathe out.

Not so many years ago, I never would have shared this story.
Not because I wouldn’t have wanted to but because I never would have received the message. I wasn’t at a point in my life where I was aware of receiving the gentle messages that surround me. That surround all of us.
Do you find it difficult to connect with inner peace?
I have to admit, there are times when I find it hard to quiet my mind chatter.
And so it was, one morning this week as I sat on my sofa taking my first deep, meditative breath. The busyness of the new year nipping at my heels, I knew that if I was to accomplish my to-do list with ease, I needed to still my thoughts.
Just as I was about to close my eyes I glanced out the window. And as I did, a crow flew into view and perched on the power line across the alley. I was compelled to observe him for a while. It was as if he had arrived in that exact moment with a powerful message, just for me.
I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. From his vantage point he had an open 360 degree view of the neighbourhood that surrounded him. He was grounded on that power line with a sense of tranquil awareness, that as I watched him, my inner calm began to expand. It was like he was holding space for the expansion to take place.
I had the sense that he would have sat there as long as it took for me to receive his gift of inner peace. Our few minutes together felt like a peaceful eternity.
After several minutes I was ready to close my eyes and when I opened them again, he was gone.
In personal development work we often talk about going within.
That’s where inner peace comes in. When you’re in a state of calm, ideas flow. Being present to what’s going on around you deepens your awareness and reflects in everything you do.
I know it can be difficult, in the midst of day to day life, to make time for yourself, let alone meditate. But big change requires action. And the action doesn’t necessarily have to be big, you just have to get started.
So, two things.
1. If you’re serious about creating a life you love, then it’s required that you make time to do what it takes. It’s as simple as blocking out time in your calendar. Start with 5 minutes if that’s all you have. Whatever it is, be consistent. Consistency is king.
2. Observing tranquility around you supports you in tapping into your inner peace. This is the precious gift I received from my new friend, the black crow.
When you’re having difficulty focusing within, find something calm in your immediate environment and focus on that. As you allow yourself to be present with the serenity around you, it helps you connect with inner peace.
The Universe is always conspiring on your behalf. Make it a habit to notice the magic around you and you will receive what you need. Maybe you’ll be gazing out your window one day and you’ll be gifted with the presence of a black crow.
What will you do this week to connect with inner peace? Please let me know by sharing in the comments below or head over to my Facebook page.
With love and gratitude,

Love this so much! Yes, observing the tranqulity of Mother Nature instantly re-connects me to that innate sense of peace. Feeling whole, loved, worthy, and safe. But it too took me years to be able to receive the message. I first had to heal old emotional and spiritual wounds.
Thank you Nadia! Being present to the tranquility of Mother Nature is such an amazing feeling. So true, it’s the healing of our inner being that allows us to be able to receive her messages. xo
It’s such a blessing to live near and walk on the Bay Trail. The sky, the water, the birds — I get that tranquility and all I have to do is look and listen. So healing. So calming. So tranquil.
You put it just beautifully.
Yes, such a blessing. I can feel the tranquility just by reading your words! Thank you for your beautiful comment Sue. <3
